MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka came back after going one set down to defeat Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 and advance to the Wuhan Open 2024 quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
Aryna Sabalenka will face either Magda Linette of Poland or Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia for a spot in the Friday’s semifinal.
In the Round of 32 the Belarusian saw off Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-4.
Aryna Sabalenka is the two-time defending champion, winning the event in 2018 and 2019.
The ongoing edition will be over on 13 October. The winner will earn 1,000 points and $525,100.
