Sabalenka loses in Berlin last 16

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 4 Aryna Sabalenka lost to world number 28 Madison Keys of the United States, 4-6, 6-1, 5-7 at the start of the Grass Court Championships Berlin 2021, BelTA has learned.

In the quarterfinal Madison Keys will face either Russia's world number 32 Veronika Kudermetova or Russia's world number 106 Liudmila Samsonova.

Belarus' world number 16 Victoria Azarenka moved to the second round of the Grass Court Championships Berlin 2021 after triumphing over Germany's world number 129 Andrea Petkovic, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). In the match for a quarterfinal spot Victoria Azarenka will face Germany's world number 27 Angelique Kerber.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka went off to a good start in the doubles event, taking a solid win over the Czech duo of Karolina Muchova and Karolina Pliskova, 6-1, 6-3. In the quarterfinal Azarenka and Sabalenka will play Petra Martic of Croatia and Shelby Rogers of the United States.

The tournament in Berlin will be over on 20 June.
