MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – Following her Madrid Open victory, Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka is gaining a solid distance away from World No.2 Iga Swiatek of Poland in the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian’s points have risen to 11,118, and her closest rival goes 4,345 points behind. In the previous years, only Serena Williams and Iga Swiatek surpassed 11,000 points in the WTA. Madrid Open finalist Coco Gauff rose to the third position in the rankings. Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka is 54th, and Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich – 99th.
