Sabalenka beats Zheng to reach Roland Garros semifinal

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has become the first semifinalist at the 2025 Roland Garros, BelTA has learned.

In today’s quarterfinal the world number one solved China’s world number 7 Zheng Qinwen, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, in a two-hour match. In the recent tournament in Rome the two tennis players faced each other in the quarterfinal, with the Belarusian losing 4-6, 3-6.  

In the semifinal Aryna Sabalenka will face either Poland’s world number 5 Iga Swiatek or Ukraine’s world number 14 Elina Svitolina. Last year Aryna Sabalenka lost to Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal. In 2023 the Belarusian lost to Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the semifinal.  

In the current French Open edition Aryna Sabalenka defeated Russia’s world number 86 Kamilla Rakhimova, World No.97 Jil Teichmann of Switzerland, Serbia’s world number 34 Olga Danilovich, and World No.16 Amanda Anisimova of the United States.

Two more quarterfinals will be played tomorrow. France’s world number 361 Lois Boisson will take on Russia’s World No.6 Mirra Andreeva. World number 2 Coco Gauff of the United States will face fellow American Madison Keys (World No.8) 

For 2025, the overall prize pool sits at €56.3 million, with the winners in the men’s and women’s singles earning €2.55 million and 2,000 points. The previous women’s singles event was won by Iga Swiatek of Poland. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain was victorious in the men’s event.
