MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) — Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka has progressed into the French Open third round seeing off Switzerland’s World No.97 Jil Teichmann, 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 20 minutes, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face World No.34 Olga Danilovic of Serbia. In the opener Aryna Sabalenka secured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Russia’s world number 86 Kamilla Rakhimova.
Belarus’ world number 75 Victoria Azarenka went off to a good start at the French Open with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Belgium’s World No.1140 Yanina Wickmayer. The Belarusian will next face world number 30 Sofia Kenin of the United States. In the doubles opener Victoria Azarenka and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand lost to the Italian duo of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani, 2-6, 3-6.
For 2025, the overall prize pool sits at €56.3 million, with the winners in the men’s and women’s singles earning €2.55 million and 2,000 points. The previous women’s singles event was won by Iga Swiatek of Poland. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain was victorious in the men’s event.
