MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has remained number 8 in the recently published WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.
Last week the best Belarusian tennis player reached the quarterfinal of the 2021 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships to lose to Spain's world number 16 Garbine Muguruza, who later won the competitions and rose to world number 13. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus did not play last week because of an injury and went down one spot from 14th to 15th in the rankings with the total of 3,665 points. Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich also lost one position and currently sits 97th with 838 points. As for other Belarusian players, Olga Govortsova goes 140th with 576 points, Vera Lapko is 281st with 237 points. In the women's doubles rankings Aryna Sabalenka and Belgium's Elise Mertens rank first.
