MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes Yauheni Rebikau and Karyna Shut claimed gold medals of the 29th International Sambo Tournament for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus. The event is underway in the Palace of Sports in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
Yauheni Rebikau (72kg) won gold in combat sambo, defeating athletes from Turkmenistan. Karyna Shut (80kg) saw off Russia’s Dina Gizatulina to claim the champion title.
Last Thursday Belarusian athletes won two silver medals. Two-time world champion Daniela Zhdan (65kg) lost to Russia’s Ekaterina Onoprienko in the final. Ilya Lomivorotov (79kg) won four bouts, but lost in the final to Andrei Korneev from Russia.
