Poland wins European Futsal Championship among priests in Lida

GRODNO, 28 February (BelTA) – Lida's sports center Olympia hosted a closing ceremony of the 8th European Futsal Championship among priests on 27 February, BelTA has learnt.

The best participants of the competitions were awarded at the ceremony. The title of the champion of the European Futsal Championship among priests went to Team Poland. Croatia won silver, Portugal clinched bronze. Team Belarus finished 4th, one of the organizers of the competitions priest Pavel Solobuda said.

Speaking at the closing ceremony was Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz who read out the greetings of Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador) Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti. The Vatican Ambassador conveyed Pope Francis' blessings to the participants of the championship. Among the speakers were also First Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Gagiyev and Chairman of the Lida District Executive Committee Alexander Ostrovsky.

Partaking in the ceremony were also priest of the Grodno Diocese Jozef Staniewski and Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican embassy) in Belarus Filippo Ciampanelli.

The 8th European Futsal Championship among priests took place in Lida on 24-27 February. Partaking in the competitions were more than 170 priests from Belarus, Austria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro. The competitions were held under the auspices of the Confederation of Roman Catholic Priests of Belarus and the Lida District Executive Committee.
