Paris Olympics champions, coaches honored in Minsk

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - The Sport and Tourism Ministry hosted a ceremony to honor the winners of the Summer Olympics in Paris in Minsk on 17 September, BelTA has learned.

Letters of commendation from the Belarusian president were presented to two-time Olympic champion in trampoline gymnastics Ivan Litvinovich, silver medalists of the 2024 Games Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya (trampoline) and Yauheni Zalaty (rowing), bronze medalist in weightlifting Yauheni Tsikhantsou. In addition, the champions of the Games, coaches and specialists who took part in their training at different stages of their careers, received cash certificates. Certificates of Merit of the Sport and Tourism Ministry were awarded to the finalists of the Olympic Games Tatsiana Klimovich (rowing) and Yuliya Trushkina (canoeing).
"I would like to congratulate everyone on the Day of People’s Unity, a young but very important holiday. We need to stay united. There were only 17 of us in Paris, we supported each other and were always there for each other. We knew that the country was rooting for us. People left us messages on social media, gave us an impetus and supported us in any situation," Yauheni Zalaty said. "I am grateful that along with the athletes, massage therapists and first coaches were also honored today. Without them these medals would not have been possible."

"The specialists who set the athletes on their journey to the top of Olympus deserve these awards no less. It is important to recognize the talent at a very young age, to put a child on their feet. Therefore, the state appreciates the work of the first coaches,” Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said. “We also decided to reward the finalsits. They came very close. To get into the top eight at the Olympics is very prestigious. Some were literally tenths of seconds away from a medal. The guys are still very young, for many it was the first Games. I am sure they will draw conclusions and will definitely have a chance to climb the Olympic podium next time."
