MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) - Belarusian swimmer Alina Zmushka missed the podium in the women's 100m breaststroke at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, BelTA has learned.
The women's 100m breaststroke program began on Sunday. The day before, in the semifinals, Zmushka set Belarus’ national record by finishing in 1:05.93. This time allowed Alina to make it to the final with the fifth result. In the final Zmushka touched the wall with a time of 1:06.54 which placed her eighth. Tatjana Smith from South Africa became the Olympic champion. China's Tang Qianting took the silver medal with a time of 1:05.54, followed by the Republic of Ireland’s Mona McSharry, with 1:05.59..
Alina Zmushka will also compete in the women’s 200m breaststroke. Preliminary heats in this discipline will be held on 31 July. Another Belarusian, Anastasiya Shkurdai, will take part in the qualifying heats in the 200m backstroke on 1 August.
