New decree seeks to stimulate commercial activity of Belarus' sports clubs

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – On 7 February Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 33 to amend Decree No. 191 as of 15 April 2013 “On providing support to organizations of physical culture and sports”, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.

The document seeks to incentivize sports clubs and federations to make money on their own.

In line with the decree, the income received from advertisers that are state-run organizations and foreign organizations where the government of Belarus owns at least half of the shares (stakes in the authorized capital) will be viewed as the means of support for sports clubs and federations.

The Sports and Tourism Ministry will be entitled to rubber-stamp the approval procedure for development plans of clubs or budgets of federations and to withdraw such approval if they reveal facts of violation of Decree No. 191. In this case, the withdrawal of approval will be the basis for termination of support. The Sports and Tourism Ministry was instructed to approve, by 1 April 2022, the approval and withdrawal procedures for development plans of clubs and budgets of federations.
