MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – The 25th International Sambo Category A Tournament for the Prizes of the President of Belarus will kick off at Chizhovka Arena in Minsk on 7 September, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the anniversary event will be more than 100 athletes from 11 countries. Apart from the host country Belarus, the tournament will feature athletes from Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Japan.
Traditionally, the bouts will be umpired by the best international referees. Every year, the organizers of the competitions do their best to make the tournament a real festival for fans and athletes. At the 10th edition of the tournament the Presidential Sports Club held its first drawing for the fans. In 2007, in addition to the main awards, the Presidential Sports Club established two special awards - For Will to Win and For the Best Techniques.
Taking part in the tournament were the world's famous sambo fighters, representatives of the Belarusian national team: Nikolai Tsypandin, Natik Bagirov, Yury Senozhatsky, Veronica Kozlovskaya, and also ten world champions whose names are in the Guinness Book of World Records - Tatiana Moskvina of Belarus and Murat Khasanov of Russia.
This year the tournament will serve as a rehearsal ahead of the 2021 World Sambo Championships in Uzbekistan in November.
The Belarusian team will be lead by its recognized leaders, including Marina Zharskaya and Ivan Aniskevich.
The opening ceremony will take place at 17.00 on 7 September. The final bouts and the awards ceremonies will begin at 17.30. The tournament will continue on 8 September.
The organizers of the Open Sambo Championships of the Republic of Belarus for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus are the Sports and Tourism Ministry of Belarus, the Presidential Sports Club, Minsk City Hall, the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, the Belarusian Sports Society Dinamo, the Belarusian Sambo Federation.
