Meshkov Brest make EHF Champions League quarterfinal

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – HC Meshkov Brest have qualified for their first ever EHF Champions League Men quarterfinal in the club's history, BelTA has learned.

After a 30-32 defeat at Zaporozhye in the first leg, the Belarusian champions were quickly in control of the second leg, and earned a never endangered 30-23 victory on 8 April. Meshkov's goalkeeper Ivan Peshich ended the match with 11 saves, a 34 per cent efficiency. Right wing Mikita Vailupau scored seven goals for Belarus. Belarusian international Barys Pukhouski was Motor's best scorer, also with seven goals.

In the next stage, Meshkov will face Barca in Brest on 12 May and in Barcelona on 19 May.

In another match on 8 April Veszprem beat Vardar 39-30 to reach the quarterfinal. In the first leg in Skopje Hungary defeated Vardar 41-27.

Paris Saint-Germain beat RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko 31:23 to make the last quarterfinalist. In the first leg Paris defeated Slovenia 37-24.

The quartefinals will also feature THW Kiel, SG Flensburg-Handewitt, Aalborg Handbold and HBC Nantes.
