Meshkov Brest lose to Vardar in EHF Champions League

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – HC Meshkov Brest lost for the second time in a row in the EHF Champions League new season, BelTA has learned.

In Group A the Brest team lost to Vardar Skopje 27-35. In the opener Meshkov Brest lost 30-33 to THW Kiel on the home ground. THW Kiel beat Norway's Elverum Handball 41-36 in the second match. Denmark's Aalborg Handbold proved stronger that France's Montpellier HB, 36-28. MOL-Pick Szeged defeated HC PPD Zagreb, 30-21.

On 30 September, the Belarusian champion will host MOL-Pick Szeged in Brest.

Group B features reigning champion Barca, Telekom Veszprem HC, C.S. Dinamo Bucuresti, HC Motor, Paris Saint-Germain Handball, Lomza Vive Kielce, FC Porto, and SG Flensburg-Handewitt.

The EHF Champions League group stage will end on 9 March 2022, after which the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Teams ranked 3rd-6th places will play for a place in the quarterfinals. Last season, HC Meshkov Brest made it to the quarterfinals for the first time in history where it lost to Barcelona who then won their tenth European Cup, defeating Aalborg in the final.
