Max Mirnyi in early exit at Cincinnati

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Max Mirnyi lost in the men's doubles opener at the $3.356m Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, the United States, BelTA has learned.

Mirnyi paired with Russia's Mikhail Youzhny fell to Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania at tie breaks in two sets 6-7 (3), 6-7 (6). The match lasted 95 minutes. The two tandems have never played each other before at the ATP tournaments. Max Mirnyi earlier played in pair with Horia Tecau to claim victory in three tournaments in 2013 (Bucharest, Hertogenbosch and Beijing). The current position of the 37-year-old Belarusian player in the ATP doubles rankings is 35. The duet of Mirnyi/Youzhny goes 21st.

As was reported, Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the Western and Southern Open due to a knee injury she suffered during the previous tournament in Montreal where she reached the quarterfinal. Azarenka will not have a chance to defend her title in Cincinnati she won last year beating Serena Williams of the United States in the final. Thus, Victoria Azarenka, currently world number ten, will go down in the WTA rankings list by the end of this week.
