Ivashka loses to Nadal at Barcelona Open

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 111 Ilya Ivashka lost to world number 3 Rafael Nadal of Spain, 6-3, 2-6, 4-6, in the round of Last 32 of the Barcelona Open, BelTA has learned.

The match lasted two hours and 20 minutes.

In the opener the Belarusian needed less than an hour to see off world number 144 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-1. Ilya Ivashka made the main draw through the qualifying, in which the Belarusian defeated world number 157 Maxime Cressy of the United States 6-1, 6-3 and Italy's world number 136 Federico Gaio 6-3, 6-2.

Belarus' world number 77 Egor Gerasimov solved France's world number 71 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 6-1 in the opener and lost to Italy's world number 19 Jannik Sinner 3-6, 2-6.

Belarus' world number 7 Aryna Sabalenka beat China's Zhang Shuai, 6-2, 6-2, in the WTA 500 event in Germany's Stuttgart. The Belarusian will next face German's world number 125 Anna-Lena Friedsam for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The tournaments in Barcelona and Stuttgart will finish on 25 April.
