Importance of Belarus-Yakutia cooperation in sport emphasized

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) - President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko met with Head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia Aisen Nikolayev at the Belarus’ NOC headquarters on 1 October, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.

The meeting focused on the issues related to cooperation in physical culture and sport. Belarus won 78 (27, 21 and 30) medals at the 8th Children of Asia Summer Games in Yakutsk in 2024.

“The Children of Asia Games in the Sakha Republic have left very good impressions. Our performance agenda has kicked off in Asia thanks to these sport events. I am confident that we will jointly strengthen our sport ties both in youth and adult sports, become regular participants in tournaments in Asia and will be happy to visit your beautiful land again. You are always welcome in Belarus, too,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

According to Aisen Nikolayev, the development of relations with Belarus is very important for the Sakha Republic. The head of Yakutia expressed his commitment to continue  cooperation in various sectors.

“Your team delivered a strong performance at the Children of Asia Games and Belarusian young athletes raised the competition level considerably. Your teams will continue to take part in the Children of Asia summer and winter editions which promote Olympic values. Pressure and sanctions on the athletes of our countries go against the Olympic principles. Yesterday’s meeting with the Belarusian president will take our relations onto a qualitatively new level in various areas, including economy, trade, culture, and sport. Our friendship will only grow stronger,” Aisen Nikolayev said.

An agreement on cooperation between the Belarusian Gymnastics Association and the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) was signed in Minsk on 30 September.
