Ignatik reaches 2019 Zhangjiagang Challenger quarterfinal

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 249 Uladzimir Ignatik has secured a second win at the 2019 Zhangjiagang International Challenger in China, BelTA has learned.

In the round of Last 16 the Belarusian defeated Australia's world number 300 Andrew Harris 6-2, 7-5. In the quarterfinal Uladzimir Ignatik will face World No.223 Viktor Galovic of Croatia. In the opener the Belarusian secured a confident win over World No.286 Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal 6-3, 6-2.

In Miami, Belarus' world number 110 Ilya Ivashka won the first set against Italy's world number 90 Thomas Fabbiano 6-4. In the middle of the second set with the Italian leading 3-0 the match was postponed till later on the day. In the women's singles event Belarus' Vera Lapko (World No.64) and France's world number 53 Alize Cornet had spent on court almost two and a half hours before the game was also postponed. The first set was won by the French player 7-5. The Belarusian won the second set at a tie-break 7-6 (9-7). Belarus' world number 36 Aliaksandra Sasnovich will face Switzerland's world number 77 Viktorija Golubic. Victoria Azarenka, ranked 46 in the world, battled past Slovakia's world number 35 Dominika Cibulkova 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the second round. The Belarusian will next play France's world number 21 Caroline Garcia. Belarus' world number nine Aryna Sabalenka will start her Miami run in the second round against either Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia or Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany. In the women's doubles Aryna Sabalenka, paired with Belgium's Elise Mertens, will take on the U.S.-Latvian duet of Danielle Collins and Jelena Ostapenko.
