IBU World Cup in Kontiolahti to be held without fans

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Two World Cup events in Kontiolahti, Finland will take place without fans in attendance, BelTA learned from the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

The reason for the decision is the coronavirus pandemic. The earlier plans included restricted numbers of fans in attendance.

“Finnish Biathlon Association and the organizers of the World Cup events in Kontiolahti made a decision, based on recommendations of regional authorities and medical services, that the World Cup competitions will be held without spectators,” the IBU said.

Norway's NRK, citing its sources in the IBU, reported that 15 out of 700 people who came to Finland for the competitions tested positive for coronavirus. Two of them are athletes.

The first World Cup event in Kontiolahti is due on 28-29 November, the second one - on 3-6 December.
