High hopes for CAS positive decision on Belarusian Tennis Federation appeal

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - We have high hopes for a positive decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the appeal of the Belarusian Tennis Federation to the International Tennis Federation, Chairman of the Belarusian Tennis Federation Sergei Rutenko told BelTA.

The Belarusian Tennis Federation has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne against the decision of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to suspend the Belarusian Tennis Federation's membership in the organization.

“Our goals are to get our athletes' rights reinstated, access for the national teams of Belarus to the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup, and the opportunity for the country to host international tournaments so that fans can support their athletes at home. We did a great job and met the deadline set by the ITF and CAS regulations. The first step was taken; now we are waiting for the response. We have left the possibility for the International Tennis Federation to reach an amicable agreement before the court and this choice will be left to the ITF. It will be difficult because we are kind of pioneers in this matter. I hope for a positive outcome, which will serve as a precedent for other Belarusian sports federations,” Sergei Rutenko said.
