HC Meshkov Brest win Belgazprombank Cup for eighth time

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – HC Meshkov Brest have raised the Belgazprombank Cup trophy for the eighth time. The tournament is a traditional event in Brest ahead of the new season, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian champion defeated KS Azoty 36-23 in the opener and secured a solid win over Russia’s Chekhovskiye Medvedi, 34-28. On the last day of the tournament Meshkov Brest lost to Ukraine’s Motor 28-32. The teams final standings are as follows: Meshkov Brest – 4 points, Chekhovskiye Medvedi – 3, Motor – 3, and Azoty – 2. The best players of the tournament were Jaka Malus – Meshkov Brest, Aleksandr Kotov – Chekhovskiye Medvedi, Dawid Dawydzik – Azoty, and Aidenas Malasinskas – Motor.

Now, HC Meshkov Brest is gearing up for the SEHA League quarterfinal match against RK Eurofarm Pelister (North Macedonia). The Belarusians will play the first match away on 21 August and host their rivals in Brest on 29 August. If successful, Meshkov Brest will play in the tournament’s Final Four in Zadar, Croatia on 4-5 September. The EHF Champions League will kick off in mid September. In preliminary Group A Meshkov Brest will face THW Kiel, HC Vardar 1961, Pick Szeged, Aalborg Handbold, Elverum Handball, Montpellier HB, HC PPD Zagreb.
