HC Dinamo Minsk visit Vityaz Chekhov looking for postseason

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – HC Dinamo Minsk will resume the KHL regular season after a League’s international break with a road game against Vityaz Chekhov on 13 February. The Belarusian team will have two more home games to play in the regular season to decide their fate for the postseason, BelTA has learnt.

Now with 68 points after 49 games Dinamo Minsk is at the 8th position in the West, the last playoff spot.

To stay in the playoff zone the Belarusian team should demonstrate solid performance as any mistake can tilt the momentum to their closest rivals who will surely fight hard to enter the top eight. Donbass Donetsk have collected the same amount of points as Minsk and rest on the 9th position only due to fewer OT wins (2 against Dinamo’s 5). Atlant Moscow Region go two points behind after producing an amazing seven-win run in the last eight matches.

Dinamo will take the ice in Chekhov without forward Andrei Stas who got knee injury in the match against Team Ukraine at the 2014 Sochi Olympic qualifiers in Vojens, Denmark. Dinamo’s newcomer Kim Hirschovits who joined the team in January 2013 will debut in tonight’s game in the line with Teemu Laine and Zbynek Irgl.

In its last two games Dinamo Minsk face two-time Gagarin Cup holder Ak Bars Kazan that currently go second in the East and the 2011 Gagarin Cup winner Salavat Yulayev Ufa, currently are fifth in the East. Dinamo’s home games are scheduled for 15 and 17 February.

SKA, CSKA, Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv and Severstal from the Western Conference, Avangard, Ak Bars, Traktor, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Salavat Yulayev, Barys and Sibir from the East have booked their KHL playoff berths.
