HC Dinamo Minsk blank Torpedo

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – HC Dinamo Minsk wrapped up their first home series in the 2014/15 KHL regular season on a good note whitewashing the visiting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod 3-0 on 20 September, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian team blew the game open with 11 minutes into the opening period when Jonathan Cheechoo slammed home his 5th goal in the season. His power-play goal made the Bisons' leadership in the KHL's power-play efficiency statistics reaching 41.7% after the game with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

Nick Bailen was named the man of the match for Dinamo Minsk as he led the pace in the second period scoring twice. The Minsk defenseman got a 2-0 lead for his team midway through the second stanza finding the back of Ivan Kasutin's net with his wide shot from the blue line. Some six minutes later he put 3-0 on the scoreboard getting an assist from Dmitry Meleshko.

Dinamo goalie Dmitry Milchakov came up big to earn his first KHL shutout with a handful of spectacular saves for his team.

Dinamo Minsk concluded their first home series, apart from the victory over Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, with wins over Atlant Moscow Region (3-2), and CSKA Moscow (3-2) and a 3-4SO loss from Severstal Cherepovets. Now, with 12 points after seven games, the Bisons go fifth in the Western Conference.

Dinamo Minsk are gearing up for a four-game trip with stops at Nizhny Novgorod (23 September), Cherepovets (25 September), Moscow (against CSKA on 27 September), and Bratislava (29 September).
