Govortsova fails to qualify for Australian Open main draw

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 138 Olga Govortsova did not make it into the Australian Open main draw losing to Italy's world number 181 Martina Trevisan, 2-6, 3-6, in the qualifying final, BelTA has learned.

In the first qualifying match Olga Govortsova defeated Italy's world number 181 Lucrezia Stefanini, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. In her second qualifying match the Belarusian saw off world number 206 Daniela Seguel of Chile, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The Australian Open main draw will run in Melbourne from 17 to 30 January. Competing in the women's event will be world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Azarenka (25), and Aliaksandra Sasnovich (77). Victoria Azarenka won the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013. The men's event will feature Ilya Ivashka (48) and Egor Gerasimov (106).
