Three medals for Belarus at World Athletics U20 Championships

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Belarus won two medals at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya on 20 August, BelTA has learned.

Matvei Volkov clinched gold in the Men's Pole Vault clearing 5.45m. Juho Alasaari of Finland took silver with 5.35m. Bronze went to Kyle Rademeyer of South Africa (5.30m).

Alina Nikitsenka of Belarus won bronze in the Women's Discus thanks to a best of 51.47m. Violetta Ignatyeva of Russia claimed the champion title with 57.84m. Silver went to South Africa's Mine De Klerk (53.50m).

Yesterday, Evgeny Brigi took silver in the Men's Shot Put with the result of 19.70m.

The Belarusian team currently go fourth in the medal table with three medals. Kenya is leading with 4 (2, 1, 1) medals. South Africa and Ethiopia follow with 4 (1, 2, 1) each.

Belarus is represented at the athletic competition in Nairobi by six athletes. A total of 973 athletes from 119 countries are competing at the World Athletics U20 Championships. The competitions will be over on 22 August.
