MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – The final boxing world qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled for June, is set to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, TASS reports citing Kyodo.
With the pandemic forcing the final European qualifier to be rescheduled from April to June, the staging of the final world qualifier has become increasingly difficult. Qualifications may instead be decided based on rankings.
Earlier, the pandemic also forces the final Olympic synchronized swimming qualifier to be rescheduled from March to May.
The Tokyo Olympics were due to take place on 24 July-9 August 2020, but had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Games are to take place on 23 July-8 August 2021.
