MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Yauheni Zalaty demonstrated an excellent fighting spirit and rightfully earned his Olympic silver medal, the two-time Olympic champion Ekaterina Karsten told BelTA.

The famous Belarusian rower Ekaterina Karsten stressed that everything gets decided in the final part of the two-kilometer race. It does not matter what happens at the start or in the middle of a race. To finish it well is the key.

“Yauheni demonstrated he is a true fighter. He fought to the very end. He did his utmost and managed to secure his first Olympic medal. A smart man! Moreover, there were some shenanigans with a broken bus before today’s race. And before that he had to get accustomed to new boats because ours were not allowed in France. So one can definitely say that the silver medal was won despite all the problems. It was hard earned,” Ekaterina Karsten said. She noted she had had similar situations when she trailed behind competition at the start of a race only to secure a victory at the end.

Speaking about the performance of the Belarusian rower Tatsiana Klimovich, who came in eighth, Ekaterina Karsten said that it is quite a decent result: “Taking into account problems with the boats, the eighth place among the planet’s strongest rowers is a good result. Tatsiana Klimovich was 13th at the Tokyo Olympics. I can see the progress. And she has something to strive for.”
