MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Belarus have secured first win in the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, defeating Sri Lanka 22-4 in Pool C in Graz, Austria, BelTA has learned.
Yesterday Yuri Volk's team lost to Hungary 11-21. On 29 May Belarus will face the Netherlands and Estonia.
The qualifying stage is featuring 20 teams divided into four groups. Two best teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinal, four winners of each will compete for three Tokyo Olympics berths. Graz is also hosting the men's qualifying tournament, in which Belarus do not take part.
The Belarusian team comprises Natallia Dashkevich, Hanna Lappo, Anastasiya Sushchyk, Darya Mahalias, and Maryna Ivashchanka. In 2019, Belarus women's 3x3 team won bronze at the 2nd European Games in Minsk and later placed fourth at the FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup.
