Ekaterina Karsten awarded NOC Belarus Certificate of Honor

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) - Ekaterina Karsten, two-time Olympic champion in rowing, has been awarded a Certificate of Honor of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.

The honoring ceremony took place on the athlete's 50th birthday in the headquarters of the NOC of Belarus. The members of the NOC Executive Committee extended heartfelt congratulations to Ekaterina and wished her every success in the work for the benefit of her favorite sport.

“After retiring I had no plans of becoming a coach. However, two years have passed and I am back to the sport I love. I work a lot with children, our future rowers. I am confident that we will succeed. There are talented children, and we just need some time for them to develop. We take an active part in competitions. We train a lot and hope that soon we will be back to the international level,” Ekaterina Karsten said.

She added that she would be rooting for the Belarusian athletes at the Moscow regatta which is due on 3-5 June. “I have decided not to travel with them this time. After all, it is my 50th birthday today. I marked my previous birthday on the train, and before that I celebrated it at training camps or tournaments. Thank you all for your support and congratulations on this important day for me.”

Ekaterina Karsten is the two-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion. Ekaterina Karsten has been awarded the Order of Fatherland I, II, and III classes, Order of Honor, and the Medal for Labor Merits.
