Cleveland: Sasnovich into quarterfinal

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world 36 Aliaksandra Sasnovich reached the Cleveland quarterfinal after solving Spain's world number 46 Sara Sorribes Tormo, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in two hours and 35 minutes in the second round, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face either world number 63 Madison Brengle of the United States or Russia's world number 28 Ekaterina Alexandrova. In the opener Aliaksandra Sasnovich saw off world number 97 Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

Another Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich (World No.322) lost to Russia's world number 45 Ludmilla Samsonova, 1-6, 0-6, in the round of Last 64.

In the doubles round of Last 16 Belarus' Lidziya Marozava and Kaitlyn Christian of the United States lost to Marcela Zacarias of Mexico and Francesca Di Lorenzo of the United States, 0-6, 1-6.

At the Winston-Salem Open Belarus' world number 51 Ilya Ivashka needed one hour to defeat Germany's world number 111 Peter Gojowczyk, 6-4, 6-2 to move into Last 16. The Belarusian will next play world number 102 Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland.

The tournaments in Cleveland and Winston-Salem will be over on 27 August.
