Biathlon federations of Belarus, Russia sign agreement on cooperation

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian Biathlon Federation and the Russian Biathlon Union have signed an agreement on cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union.

The agreement was signed at a symbolic ceremony in Moscow by the head of the Russian Biathlon Union Viktor Maigurov and Chairman of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation Andrian Tsybulski. Interaction between the two federations involves the development of joint schedules of competitions and other events on the territory of both countries, training programs and participation of national teams in joint tournaments, the preparation of new formats and disciplines for regional and international competitions, as well as other forms of cooperation.

“This is a significant event, although we have always had close cooperation with the Belarusians. Interaction includes the exchange of experience between our federations. We will compete at least with each other. We will be glad if other countries will be interested in joining us. The purpose of this cooperation is to keep athletes fit. I am sure that the situation will stabilize soon and our teams will return to the world biathlon,” said Viktor Maigurov.

The Commonwealth Cup, a tournament for Belarusian and Russia athletes, will be held as part of the agreement. The tournament will consist of six stages: one in August, another one in September, and four more in winter. The second, fourth and fifth stages of the Commonwealth Cup will be held in Raubichi.

The agreement is valid for four years, after which it will be automatically extended for a new Olympic cycle by mutual agreement of the biathlon federations of the two countries.
