MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Dianis Yermolenka of Belarus has secured a silver medal in the K1 U23 Men 500 event at the 2025 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, BelTA has learned.

Dianis Yermolenka began his campaign on 24 July with a win in the preliminary heat. The Belarusian athlete continued his strong performance with a second-place finish in Saturday's semifinal before repeating his success in Sunday's final. The Belarusian finished behind Jonas Ecker of the USA, while edging New Zealand's Pierre van der Westhuyzen by 0.01 seconds.

This achievement comes just weeks after Dzianis Yermolenka earned bronze at the 2025 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships in Romania earlier this month.

Elsewhere, Olympic finalist Yuliya Trushkina placed sixth in the C1 U23 Women 200, while Maryia Papichych finished sixth in the C1 Junior Women 200. Marharyta Mekh added another top-ten finish for Belarus, taking seventh place in the K1 Junior Women 200.
