Belarusian sport minister calls to impeach World Athletics head

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk suggested that World Athletics consider the impeachment of its head Sebastian Coe as he spoke at the international sports forum “Russia is a sports power” in Ufa, TASS informed.

Speaking at the panel session “Sports integration in the CIS, BRICS, SCO and EAEU. New Opportunities”, Sergei Kovalchuk said that the policy of Sebastian Coe, who is a candidate for the post of president of the International Olympic Committee, is aimed at destroying the Olympic movement: “He cares only about his career, and uses the situation with Russian and Belarusian athletes for personal purposes. If he becomes the head of the international Olympic movement, which is already on its last legs, we suggest calling on the members of World Athletics to consider impeachment, as Coe's policy is aimed at the destruction of the Olympic movement.”

The new IOC president will be elected in Greece in March 2025. In addition to Sebastian Coe of the UK, there are six other candidates for the post of IOC head. The current IOC President Thomas Bach will not run for another term.
