Belarusian athletes win 12 medals on seventh day of Children of Asia Games

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – The seventh competition day of the 8th international games Children of Asia has wrapped up in the Russian city of Yakutsk, BelTA has learned. Belarusian athletes are taking part in the games.

On Tuesday, 2 July Belarusians won six gold, one silver and five bronze medals. Half of the day’s medals were earned by track and field athletes. Belarusians secured top positions in the boys’ long jump event: Pavel Artemyev came first, he was followed by Stanislav Stemasov. Yekaterina Novik was unrivaled in the 400-meter hurdles while Vladislav Kovaliuk won bronze in the 3000-meter run.

Belarusian athletes took double gold in 4x100m relay race. In the girls’ race the quartet of Valeria Muravskaya, Nika Petrovska, Dominika Kel and Anna Orlovskaya took the first place while Andrey Litvinovich, Ivan Shilets, Ilya Korebo and Yegor Bereshko showed the best result among boys.

The 3x3 basketball competition also ended today. Belarus’ U16 teams won both sets of top awards. In the girls’ final Marta Golovach, Alesya Talkovskaya, Daria Kulik and Ulyana Paley defeated the team of the Ural Federal District with the score of 14:9 and in the boys’ championship match Ilya Baranov, Ivan Kotovsky, Yaroslav Gest and Oleg Salei were stronger than their peers from Uzbekistan (11:5).

Three more medals were won in judo. Maxim Strokun (up to 81kg), Elina Gromyko (up to 63kg) and Daria Pleskatsevich (up to 70kg) reached the semifinals in their categories where they were defeated. Since there were no bouts for the third places in these weights, the Belarusians received bronze medals.

The Belarusian boxing team won its first medal of the Children of Asia Games: Darya Svilenok took the third place in the category up to 57kg after failure in the semifinals. On 2 July three Belarusian guys entered the ring, but they failed to pass the quarterfinal stage. Two more Belarusians keep fighting for awards: Sergei Zayats (up to 50kg) and Zakhar Sharanovich (up to 75kg) will have their fights on Wednesday.

Apart from that, medals in shooting among mixed pairs were sorted out today. Belarusian duets in air rifle and pistol shooting took seventh places. On Tuesday archers also started competing at the Games. Qualification competitions were held on the first day. According to their results, all our participants in the individual competition as well as in the team tournament and the mixed tournament will continue fighting tomorrow.

Thus, after a week of competitions in Yakutsk the Belarusian delegation took the first position in the medal standings among 30 national teams: the Belarusian team has 67 awards (22 gold, 21 silver and 24 bronze). The 8th international games Children of Asia will last through 6 July.
