Belarus' Yahor Shchalkanau clinches Paralympic silver in Tokyo

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Belarusian swimmer Yahor Shchalkanau won silver at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian clocked 1:01.96 to touch in second in the Men's 100m Backstroke S9. Bogdan Mozgovoi of Russia won the event in 1:01.75. Bronze went to Timothy Hodge of Australia (1:02.16).

Belarusian athletes have so far won six medals at the Paralympic Games in the capital of Japan. Swimmer Ihar Boki claimed four gold medals, javelin thrower Lizaveta Piatrenka took bronze.

Some 4,000 athletes from 160 countries are competing at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The Games feature 539 medal events in 22 sports. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 5 September.
