Belarus' vice premier: We need to do utmost to perform well at Paris Games

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – The analysis of the reasons behind the failures of the Belarusian athletes at the Tokyo Games is one of the important topics on the agenda of the second part of the joint session of the National Olympic Committee and the Sports and Tourism Ministry on 28 September, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko told the media, BelTA has learned.

According to the vice premier, the most important thing is to see what had not been done. “You know that the head of state also expressed some criticism in this regard. Today we are going to have a detailed conversation with representatives of the sports sector. We will assess why it was not possible to achieve a better result and what we need to do in order to take into account the mistakes that were made and to perform well at the next summer Olympic Games in Paris. If necessary, we will adjust our preparations for the 2022 Winter Games in China. We need to do our utmost to see our sport occupy a decent place in the international rankings based on the performance at various international competitions: the Olympics, world and European championships. Our country has everything necessary for it, including infrastructure and financial incentives. The only task is for the coaches and athletes to implement all this in the right way. We need to do this work together. Only then there will be the result that we want and that people in our country are waiting for, so that we could be even more proud of the achievements of our country,” said Igor Petrishenko.
