MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) - The 32nd FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will kick off in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on 28 August. Belarusians will be represented in individual all-round, individual rhythmic and group events, BelTA has learnt.
In the individual rhythmic events Belarus will be represented by the maximum allowed number of gymnasts, two, on a par with major medal hopefuls such as Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Russia and Ukraine. Together with the leader of the Belarusian team Melitina Stanyuta competing in individual all-round will be Yekaterina Galkina. Despite her youth, the latter also has international experience after taking part in the European Championship and World Cups competing with senior athletes. Among other hot favorites for the pedestal are Russia’s Margarita Mamun and Yana Kudryavtseva, Ukraine’s Alina Maksimenko and Anna Rizatdinova, Azerbaijan’s Lala Yusifova and Marina Durunda, Bulgaria’s Silvia Miteva and France’s Ksenia Muostafaeva. All in all, 99 gymnasts will take part in individual events.
Tomorrow the athletes will begin the competition with the hoop and balls rotations. On 29 August the ribbon and clubs rotations will be in action. The final of the individual all-round has been scheduled for 30 August.
Group events will kick off on 31 August. This day will see a final in the all-round event (10 clubs; 3 balls+2 ribbons). On 1 September the winners in all routines of the group competitions will be announced. All in all, 27 national teams including Belarus will take part in this event. The Belarusian team includes Alexandra Narkevich, Marina Goncharova, Valeria Pishchelina, Anna Dudenkova, Yana Lukovets and Maria Kotyak.
Taking part in the competition will be about 300 best gymnasts from 59 countries.
FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships have been held since 1963. This is the first competition of such high level hosted by Ukraine. On 27 August an opening ceremony of the championship will be held at Kyiv’s Sports Palace.
