MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian weightlifter Siarhei Sharankou has earned silver at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Albania, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian athlete made the podium in the men’s U23 110kg category. In the snatch, Sharankou made 176kg and 179kg, and in the clean and jerk he cleared 210kg and 214kg. His total of 393kg secured him the runner-up position among 13 athletes, behind Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan (397kg) and ahead of Russia’s Sarmat Tebloev (388kg) in third. Sharankou also claimed the small silver medal in the snatch and the small bronze in the clean and jerk.
Another Belarusian weightlifter, Uladzislau Sakovich, finished fifth overall with a total of 378kg (173kg + 205kg). Earlier on 4 November, Belarusian Alena Bondarava (U23, +86kg) took second place in the total, also winning one small gold and one small silver medal.
