Belarus reach 3x3 basketball semifinal at 2021 CIS Games

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian men's and women's national teams have reached 3x3 basketball semifinals at the First CIS Games in Kazan, BelTA has learned.

At the preliminary stage the Belarusian women's team secured confident wins against Uzbekistan (22-11) and Armenia (19-11) and lost to Russia (12-18). In the semifinal Belarus will again take on Uzbekistan and, if win, will face Russia. The Belarusian team features Katsiaryna Karcheuskaya, Natallia Harbachova, Alena Tsitavets, and Iryna Krauchanka.

The Belarusian men's team topped Group B defeating Azerbaijan 20-12 and Kyrgyzstan 16-11. Belarus will compete for a spot in the final against Uzbekistan on 6 September. In the second semifinal Russia will face Azerbaijan. The Belarusian team comprises Tsimur Drukau, Aliaksei Navoichyk, Vitali Lebedev, and Kiryl Vaskautsou.

In the capital of Tatarstan Belarus will be represented in badminton, basketball 3x3, boxing, judo, karate, table tennis, shooting, sambo, wrestling, Thai boxing, futsal and dance sport. A total of 1,100 athletes aged 14 to 23 years from nine countries - Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Moldova, Belarus and Russia - have applied for the First CIS Games. The program of the Games includes 16 sports and 182 medal events.

Originally the competitions were to be held on 20-27 August 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the Games were moved to September 2020, and later on to 2021.
