MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – The Washington Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas of Belarus was named the NHL Second Star of the Night, BelTA learned from the NHL press service.

The Belarusian forward earned his first career NHL hat trick leading the Washington Capitals to a 7-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks. Aliaksei Protas became the fifth Belarusian to tally three goals in one NHL game. Aliaksei Protas earned the Capitals’ player of the game chain after head coach Spencer Carbery’s postgame locker room speech. The NHL experts named Aliaksei Protas the Second Star of the Night. Goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson of the Minnesota Wild topped the chart with 27 saves to snap the Colorado Avalanche’s winning streak. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was named the Third Star of the Night after scoring two goals in a 3-2 win against the Vegas Golden Nights.

This season Aliaksei Protas has had 58 (28+30) points in 65 matches. He goes one point behind Belarus’ Yegor Sharangovich’s last season record for goals scored in the NHL regular season. The Washington Capitals secured their fifth straight win in a row. The team will next face the Los Angeles Kings on 14 March.
