MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) - Belarus’ table tennis player Victoria Pavlovich won the women’s singles event at the Table Tennis Czech Open 2013 in Czechia’s Olomouc, BelTA has learnt.
The Belarusian tennis player, seeded first at the tournament, got off to a good start from the beginning of the tournament and finished it in perfect fashion. In the first two matches she saw off Czechia’s Hana Bartosova and Japan’s Miu Hirano with the same score of 4-0. However, the further path to the victory was not so easy. Austria’s Amelie Solja and Germany’s Kristin Silbereisen both fought hard against the Belarusian and were winning 3-1 but on both occasions Victoria Pavlovich did turn the matches upside down and triumphed 4-3. The semifinal match was much easier for Victoria Pavlovich who calmly chalked up a 4-1 victory against Yuki Nonaka of Japan. In the final game the Belarusian also won 4-2 (9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7) against second seed Li Jiao of the Netherlands. Earlier both finalists won gold at the European Championships twice, the Belarusian achieving this success in 2010 and 2012 and Li Jiao in 2007 and 2011.
Victoria Pavlovich, 35, has won the second ITTF World Tour title (the first one came after the victory at the Belarusian Open Championship in 2008). In three other finals she lost to her opponents. All in all, Victoria Pavlovich took part in 89 competitions under the aegis of ITTF World Tour. Her debut was at a competition in Italy in 1996 when she was only 18 years old.
In the women’s doubles Belarus’ Victoria Pavlovich and Yelena Dubkova earned two victories but did not make it to the quarterfinal after losing to Russia’s Yana Noskova and Anna Tikhomirova 0-3.
In the men’s singles the best Belarusian result was shown by Pavel Platonov who made it to the round of 64 where he lost to Sweden’s Kristian Karlsson 1-4.
