
MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ Open Cup featuring Belarusian and Russian track and field athletes ended at the Olympic training center in athletics in Minsk, BelTA learned.
Eighteen events were held on the second and final day. Belarusian athletes celebrated wins in ten events and the Russians were successful in eight disciplines. Team Belarus gold winners were Alena Trus, Aleh Tamashevich (shot put), Tatsiana Shabanava (1500m), Artsiom Kalachou (800m), Maksim Niastsiarenka (triple jump), Tatsiana Khaladovich, Aliaksei Katkavets (javelin throw), Nina Savina and Dzmitry Ivanenka (5,000m). The best result in the men’s 4x400 relay clocked by the Gomel Oblast quartet. The team of this region topped up the Belarus Open Cup the team standings.
Belarus’ Open Cup became a qualifying event for the Best Athletes Cup in Athletics which will be held in Brest on 12 and 13 July. The first three-placed athletes in every event advanced to the tournament. Other participants will be approved by the coaching staff.
