Belarus’ NOC bewildered at IOC decision on Belarusian athletes

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus has expressed bewilderment over the IOC’s first list of Belarusian athletes eligible to compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.

Non-transparent approaches and conclusions of the so-called commission to verify the neutral status of athletes ahead of the Games cause incomprehension and indignation. For inexplicable reasons, the athletes, who successfully passed the tests, participated in qualifying competitions and qualified for the Games, have not been approved for participation, the NOC statement reads.

The NOC of Belarus noted that the list published by the IOC is not the final one (it does not include all sports) and has not been officially approved by Belarus. The NOC of Belarus will continue negotiations with the IOC and will defend the right of every athlete to perform at the Games.

The final decision on who will perform at the Paris Games 2024 will be taken by the NOC together with sport federations and athletes. One of the main objective principles is to ensure that only those who managed to qualify for the Games under the harsh, restrictive and discriminatory conditions should compete at the upcoming multi-sport event.
