MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - Sale of tickets for the 2021 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship may start before the end of this year, Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Dmitry Baskov told the media before the meeting of the organizing committee for the 2021 IIHF event, BelTA has learned.
“We are in contact with our Latvian colleagues, with the International Ice Hockey Federation. We have developed a ticket program and plan to launch it this year. Special conditions will be created for Belarusian fans so that everyone could buy tickets at special prices,” Dmitry Baskov said. He did not specify other details of the ticket program.
Dmitry Baskov also commented on the calls against the 2021 IIHF World Championship taking place in Minsk. “I do not understand the people calling for sport solidarity and against the IIHF World Championship being hosted by Minsk. They themselves repeatedly said that any world sport event is a great festival for the hosting country and, first of all, for the fans. It turns out that our fans do not deserve a festival? The same is true for athletes. We all know and understand the prestige of participating in world championships. In this case, a big question arises to those incredible people who call for this solidarity, especially to those who have been investing a lot of energy in the preparation for such tournaments,” Dmitry Baskov said.
In his opinion, calls to boycott the IIHF World Championship are not signs of solidarity. “It turns out that hockey players do not deserve this solidarity? Some of these hockey players may have the only chance to play against the world hockey teams on the home ground in front of their relatives and friends. For some it may be the last world championship in their career,” Dmitry Baskov added.
