Belarus’ Karyna Shut wins silver at 2025 World Sambo Cup

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) –Karyna Shut of Belarus secured second place at the 2025 World Sambo Cup in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian reached the podium in the under-80 kg weight category. In the semifinal, she defeated Russia's Karina Bykova, but lost in the final to fellow Russian Anastasia Khomyachkova. Earlier this year, Karyna Shut also won silver at the World Sambo Cup in Armenia. Karyna Shut is also a medalist at the World and European Championships and a winner of the BRICS Games.

Another Belarusian athlete, Dziyana Khakhlova (under-54 kg) lost in the quarterfinals. Overall, the Belarusian team won five medals (0-3-2) at the event in Tajikistan. Silver medals in the combat sambo division were won by Yelizaveta Lapayeva (under-59 kg) and Valeryia Khrushchova (over-80 kg). Ilya Lomivorotov (under-79 kg) and Aliaksandr Kruglik (under-88 kg) each took bronze.

In total, more than 170 athletes from 12 countries competed at the World Sambo Cup in Dushanbe.
