MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Belarus secured two victories at the
start of the Men’s 19 EHF Championship 2021 in Varna, Bulgaria, BelTA
has learned.
In the Group B first match Vasily Ostrovsky’s team routed Finland 30-20. Ihar Bialiauski led his team with 8 goals. In the second match Belarus took a solid win over Lithuania, 41-23. Ihar Bialiauski and Kiryl Samoila scored nine goals each. Tomorrow Belarus will face Slovakia that lost to Lithuania 25-27 and then solved Finland 25-23. The team standings before the final match day are as follows: Belarus – 4 points, Slovakia – 2, Lithuania – 2, Finland – 0. Group A standings: Faroe Islands – 2 points (1 match played), Czech Republic – 2 (1), Bulgaria – 0 (2). Two best teams from each group will progress to the semifinal. The semifinals will take place on 21 August. The final will be played on 22 August.
The Women’s 17 EHF Championship 2021 took place in Klaipeda, Lithuania last week. Belarus placed fifth. Ulyana Petrachkova of Belarus was a top scorer of the tournament with 42 goals.
