Belarus claim 17 medals on day one at International Sambo Tournament

MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – Belarusian judokas won 17 (5 gold, 3 silver, 9 bronze) medals on the first competition day at the ongoing 25th International Sambo Category A Tournament for the Prizes of the President of Belarus in Minsk. The competitions are held at Chizhovka Arena, BelTA has learned.

Gold medals were collected by Anfisa Kapayeva (50kg), Tatsiana Matsko (59kg), Uladzislau Burdz (58kg), Dzmitry Khakhlou (+99kg), and Yauhen Mikhno (64kg, combat sambo).

Silver medals went to Yauhen Iliukhin (88kg), Valentin Natalevich (98kg, combat sambo), and Bahdan Voitsik (+98kg).

Bronze medals were won by Alina Rubtsova (50kg), Arif Bagirov (58kg), Uladzislau Sayapin and Ilia Lomivorotov (both 71kg), Angelina Pirskaya (72kg), Ruslan Makeyeu (79kg, combat sambo), Uladzimir Zhupikau (88kg), Valeryia Khrushcheva (+80kg), Illia Zhupikau (+98kg).

Taking part in the anniversary event will be more than 100 athletes from 11 countries. Apart from the host country Belarus, the tournament is featuring athletes from Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Japan.

The organizers of the Open Sambo Championships of the Republic of Belarus for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus are the Sports and Tourism Ministry of Belarus, the Presidential Sports Club, Minsk City Hall, the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, the Belarusian Sports Society Dinamo, the Belarusian Sambo Federation.
