Belarus' Andrei Filchuk wins Ikar 2021 in Moscow

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus' Andrei Filchuk won the international wheelchair tennis tournament Ikar 2021 in Moscow (Quad Class) defeating Maxim Vladimirov of Russia, 6-3, 6-4, BelTA learned from coach administrator of the Belarusian national parasports team Marina Grigoryan.

In the doubles final Andrei Filchuk and Maxim Vladimirov saw off Vladislav Chebotarev and Evgenii Guliukin, 6-1, 6-0.

Viktoryia Safronava of Belarus placed third in the women's doubles event.

Alena Biarnovich (women's singles) and Artsiom Yarmak (men's doubles) finished their run in the semifinal.

Vadzim Lipinski placed second in the men's singles repechage final.

Wheelchair tennis is an official Paralympic sport. Such competitions are held at all four Grand Slam tournaments. The International Tennis Federation organizes a regular competition tour for wheelchair tennis players - ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

The Quad Class is for athletes with additional restrictions in the playing arm, which limits the ability to handle the racquet and maneuver the wheelchair. They may use powered wheelchairs.
