MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – Belarusian cyclist Alena Amialiusik placed ninth at the first stage of the 2022 Tour of the Basque Country - Itzulia Women 2022, BelTA has learned.
Demi Vollering of the Netherlands won the hilly 105.9km stage in 2:55.17. Alena Amialiusik representing Germany's Canyon-SRAM racing crossed the finish line ninth, 41 seconds behind the winner. A total of 111 athletes took part in the event. The second 117.9km stage is scheduled for Saturday. The race will complete on Sunday.
Women are taking part in the Tour of the Basque Country for the first time. The race in Spain is the first cycling event on the UCI Women's World Tour 2022.
