Beijing 2022: Belarus 8th in Men's Relay

BEIJING, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian team of Mikita Labastau, Dzmitry Lazouski, Maksim Varabei and Anton Smolski finished 8th in the Men's 4x7.5km Relay at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games. Norway secured gold. Silver went to France, bronze to Russia, BelTA has learned.

Mikita Labastau missed two targets in the prone and used one spare round in the standing to finish second in the first leg, 0.9 seconds behind Russia's Karim Khalili. Dzmitry Lazouski shot clean in the prone and used two spare rounds finished Leg 2 in the third position. Maksim Varabei shot perfectly in the prone but had to make two penalty loops after the standing shooting stage. He tagged Anton Smolski with more than two minutes behind the leading Russian athlete. The leader of the Belarusian team secured the 8th place for Belarus with the total time of 1:59.00.

The team claiming the gold medal was decided after the last shooting stage. Russia's anchor leg, Eduard Latypov used all three spare rounds, picking up two penalty loops. Norwegian anchor Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen and France's anchor Quentin Fillon Maillet overtook him leaving Russia in the third. Norway's winning time is 1:19.50.2. France finished 27.4 seconds behind the winner. Russia was 45.3 seconds back.

The Women's 4x6 Relay is scheduled for 16 February.
